What is Endodontics?
Endodontics is the part of dentistry that is concerned with the internal part of the tooth, including the dental pulp and the tissues that surround the root of the tooth. The word derives from the Greek language with “endo” meaning inside. Endodontics is about saving teeth through routine and advanced and more complex procedures.
Endodontic dentists have trained for 2 or more years longer than a standard dentist. They are experts in their field and have a greater understanding of numbing medications. They also understand how to deal with pain management after treatment and moving forward.
Some of the endodontic procedures include root canal treatment and surgery, endodontic surgery and even unique and impressive procedures that can save teeth after trauma and injury. If you would like to find out more information, please do not hesitate to give us a call or drop us a message.
What Is Root Canal Treatment?
Root canal treatment is a specific endodontic procedure that targets infected pulp cavities and root canals that have become infected. This treatment will hopefully remove the infected area and save the tooth in the process. These issues can be caused by a number of issues including tooth decay, loose fillings, dental trauma, repeated dental treatment on said tooth and even deep cracks that can emerge in the tooth.
Meet The Team
We understand that visiting the dentist can be an anxiety-inducing affair. However, we want to make this as easy and as stress-free as possible. Before we will do any procedure, we will do a consultation to assess the problem. We can also determine how much of an issue this is and whether it is an emergency or not.
Diagnosis of Problems
Here at Forestside Dental Practice, we offer a wide range of Endodontics procedures to help save teeth. This will help you to maintain a natural smile. Our endodontic specialist will use advanced and current technology, which will help give a better understanding of the issue.
Our team will use a range of digital radiographs, x-rays and 3d imagining. By doing this, our endodontic dentist will be able to see what is happening with your teeth and how to fix it. If we find something, we will discuss further steps with you to get a better understanding of what you need doing.
There are several endodontic procedures that we can do this includes diagnosis root canal symptoms and treating them. There is also endodontic surgery to sort this out too. We can also do special procedures to help save teeth after damaging them through trauma and injury. To ensure that we don’t damage any of your other teeth, these procedures will employ a thin sheet of latex to separate the affected tooth from the rest of your mouth – protecting it.
Please get in touch with us today so we can discuss how these procedures can help you today!
What Can I Expect During a Root Canal Treatment?
Once we have diagnosed the problem, we will set up an appointment to schedule you in for your endodontic procedure. This will be done under local anaesthetic to ensure that you feel no pain. Using a microscope we will figure out what the best course of action is. The infection will be cleaned out by using tiny files. The internal part of the root is then cleaned out – removing all the bacteria from inside the tooth. It usually takes 2 appointments to fully clean out the tooth. The tooth will then be filled again with a ribber material called gutta-percha. A crown would be ideal to be fitted after as it can prevent further damages and fractures.
Benefits of Endodontics
With endodontics procedures, there are many benefits that you can enjoy. These include:

What Happens After Root Canal Treatment?
After getting any type of endodontic procedure done, you may need some over the counter painkillers in order to soothe the pain that may be felt after treatment. It is normal for the area surrounding the tooth – not the tooth itself – to feel sore. To hopefully save the tooth, it is often advised to have the tooth prepared to have a crown. This is done to make sure that future damage is prevented and need extraction.
