Dental abscesses can be due to severe gum disease or a tooth infection and should be treated as quickly as possible before the infection spreads:
– An abscess is a painful swollen pus-filled area that will need to be lanced and drained by a dentist.
– If the infection is severe it may need a root canal filling to remove the infected tooth pulp or the tooth may need to be removed.
– If the abscess was caused by severe gum disease a root planing and scaling will be performed.
“A dental abscess is usually painful and will require treatment as soon as possible.”
